I'd like to try beekeeping - do I have to join?

No, come along and try it out. All we ask is a contribution towards tea and coffee for summer meetings, and £1 for winter lectures.

Where do I get a veil?

We will lend you a veil, and disposable gloves at the apiary.

Can I join at any time?

Yes, just turn up at any point through the year and ask for a committee member and they will be only too happy to assist.

I kept bees previously - do you offer refresher courses?

Yes, we try to teach the latest and best practice and are lucky to have two Bee Inspectors amongst our members.

Will I get stung?

Aahh, the inevitable first question. The answer is yes, eventually. We keep calm bees at the apiary, and most stings are the fault of the beekeeper, due to squashing bees under their fingers whilst manipulating hives.

I'm really nervous - do I have to handle the bees?

No, you can go at your own pace. Just let the coordinator of your allocated hive know, and they can work to your pace.

I'm an advanced member who would like to join - what can I do?

We have plenty of opportunties for advanced beekeepers - queen rearing, advising beginners, acting as a mentor - whatever you could manage.
