Reigate once again are pleased to announce the winter courses are open for applications. Please send an email to This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to register your interest, indicating which course you are most interested in. Please also indicate if you could attend the other course, if places are already full. Applications for places are welcomed regardless of your area - we've had students from as far afield as Brighton!
The course is full each year of completely new beekeepers, and those who just wish to learn a little more about bees & beekeeping. Two teaching locations are offered, providing an opportunity for students to select the most convenient. It also worth noting the courses are fun! (really!). Adults & supervised children are welcome to attend.
On completion of the courses, all students are encouraged to join Reigate Beekeepers weekly practical training - which starts from the 1st week of April through to the end of August. The practical training is free to club members, and picks up (and continues) on the theory course. 4 sessions can be attended before students have to become club members. Club members can also benefit from our swarm collection service (to populate your new hive) and a host of other benefit (detailed elsewhere on the website).

Reigate Beekeepers host an evening course on beekeeping each winter. The course covers all aspects of starting to keep bees and is an excellent way to gain the knowledge and confidence required. The course runs through the winter and leads directly up to the weekly practical summer teaching sessions we offer in the association apiary where experienced members are on hand to assist and answer questions.

Courses are taught by David Rudland, Seasonal Bee Inspector & local bee farmer. We get excellent feedback each season on how successfull, and fun the courses have been, and everyone mentions Davids infectious enthusiasm. Reigate like to use a professional beekeeper for our thoery courses, as the students always benefit from the high quality teaching, with the tutors having a great depth and breadth of knowledge, and access to the latest recommended disease management methods.

The evening classes have been taught by Alan Byham (regional bee inspector), for several years and are well worth attending for any prospective beekeeper, or those returning to the hobby after an absence wishing to learn of the latest pest management techniques. Prior to Alan Byham the course was taught by Maurice Field.
